You can start babywearing from birth with a carrier suitable for a newborn, provided you follow the model’s limits and instructions and achieve a correct fit.
Age is a guide. When choosing, also consider your baby’s weight, size and development, as well as the wearer’s needs. An ergonomic design needs to be fitted correctly to provide the intended support.
Carrying a newborn
During the early months, your baby needs support that follows their posture and properly supports their head, neck and back.
Amarsupiel offers wraps, Crisálida babywearing shirts, ring slings and carriers specifically designed for newborns. Each model has its own conditions of use: check its minimum weight, sizing and instructions before using it.
The carrier should keep your baby close to your body, with their face visible, nose and mouth clear, and chin away from their chest.
If your baby was born prematurely or has particular medical needs, consult a healthcare professional first.
Babywearing from 6 months
As your baby grows, their fit and support needs change. You do not have to change carriers when your baby turns six months old: you can continue using a carrier as long as its limits are respected and it fits correctly.
Amarsupiel adjustable carriers and Mei Tais are intended for approximately 6–36 months and 6–20 kg, provided your baby’s size and development allow a suitable fit.
Buckle carriers use buckles and adjustable straps. Mei Tais combine a panel with fabric straps that are tied and spread over the shoulders to distribute weight.
Ring slings can also be an option, especially for short periods and frequent ups and downs. As they distribute weight asymmetrically, consider the wearer’s comfort.
Babywearing after the first year
Babywearing can continue to accompany walks and moments when your little one needs to be close.
Amarsupiel adjustable carriers and Mei Tais support up to 20 kg, within their age, size and fit limits. Ring slings support up to 15 kg, depending on the model, and can be useful as an additional carrier for short periods.
Back carrying should only be used when the model’s instructions allow it and your baby meets its developmental requirements. Learn the fitting technique before using this position.
How to check the fit
Before starting and during use, check that:
- Your baby is securely supported and close to your body.
- Their face remains visible and their airways are clear.
- Their chin is not pressed against their chest.
- Their back, pelvis and thighs have the support specified for the model.
- The fabric and adjustments remain secure, without slack that could compromise support.
To feed your baby, take them out of the carrier and fit them correctly again afterwards.

Materials, certifications and testing
Textile certifications and product testing serve different purposes. Their scope depends on the specific material and model.
Amarsupiel product pages detail applicable certifications, such as OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, GOTS or the Global Recycled Standard, where relevant. They also indicate testing carried out by AIJU for the relevant models.
These references do not replace the instructions for use or a correct fit. Always check the specific information for the product you intend to use.
